Piedmont heat-pump projects need to solve sound and placement as well as comfort

On a Piedmont home, the outdoor unit cannot be treated as an afterthought. Property-line sound, street visibility, setbacks, refrigerant routing, architectural appearance, and service access can all influence where the equipment belongs.

3rdGen considers those constraints alongside load, ductwork, zoning, ventilation, indoor equipment, and distribution so the mechanical system can be integrated intentionally rather than forced into the property at installation.

Piedmont requires outdoor heat-pump sound calculations demonstrating no more than 50 dB at the nearest property line. Its planning exemption for qualifying units also addresses street visibility, setbacks, unit count, and concealment or finish treatment of exterior lines.

How does Piedmont’s sound requirement affect heat-pump installation?
